The Gender Order and Social Structural Power
In order to grasp the idea of the gender order and how specific types of masculinities are privileged and perpetuate deep-seated beliefs that are prejudicially sexist and bias in gender-specific ways, it is important that we outline some additional key concepts. We begin with two: patriarchy and hegemonic masculinity. We go on to illustrate how these concepts help explain how the gender order is perpetuated such that the violent and recidivist nature of menâs offending can be better understood.
